What are High-Strength Floors?

Define strength. Who is stronger, Superman or Batman? When it comes to floors, strength often relates to compressive strength – the capacity of a flooring material to withstand heavy loads and resist compression (density/materials being pressed together). Compressive strength looks at how much of a load a floor can handle and is usually reported in relationship to a specific technical standard. There are tests to ensure your floor will meet compressive-strength standards. The American Society for Testing and Materials is an international technical, scientific and education organization dedicated to the standardization of specifications and methods testing.

Benefits of High-Strength Floors

Compressive strength is a critical part of decision-making for manufacturing environments where there is heavy equipment, moving equipment and wheeled traffic.

Benefit highlights include:

  • Standing up to the weight of heavy equipment and traffic
  • Saving time and money on floor repair or replacement due to failed or worn flooring

Recommended Products

Stonhard follows the testing procedures administered by the American Society for Testing and Materials for Compressive Strength of Chemical-Resistant Mortars, Grouts, Monolithic Surfacing and Polymer Concretes. A company that claims to have high-strength flooring should offer testing credentials or offer to submit materials for independent laboratory analysis. Our team of Territory Managers, Architects and Engineers will assist you in finding the best high-strength floor for your environment.
